Our strategic plan is perhaps the best kept secret at the PCTA. Many of our constituents are not aware of our three-year plan that guides our activities and focuses our work. Our staff and Board of Directors actively use and rely on this document. It manages our growth and allows us to make thoughtful decisions on what opportunities to embrace, and what to decline.
Our current strategic plan was designed for the years 2007 – 2009. It is time for us to revise our current plan and create an updated document that will guide us for the next three years (2010 – 2012). We will build on the key issues that emerged in the planning process for the original plan and anticipate using the same six goals as the framework for the revision.
Here are our six goals that guide our activities:
- Goal 1: The PCT corridor is permanently protected for hikers and equestrians.
- Goal 2: The entire Pacific Crest Trail is designed, constructed and maintained through cooperative management.
- Goal 3: The Pacific Crest Trail is widely recognized as an internationally significant resource.
- Goal 4: The Pacific Crest Trail Association has the financial resources needed to accomplish its mission.
- Goal 5: The Pacific Crest Trail Association has the human resources needed to accomplish its mission.
- Goal 6: The Pacific Crest Trail Association has the systems and infrastructure needed to accomplish its mission.
Between now and January, we will develop strategies and milestones for each of these goals. Many of the strategies for Goal 1 will come directly from the six tactical initiatives developed in our Land Protection Plan, recently approved by PCTA’s Board of Directors.
- Advocate for Congressional support,
- Advocate for USFS dedicated PCT Lands Team,
- Increase private fundraising,
- Build relationships with private land acquisition partners,
- Analysis of PCT parcels at risk, and
- Increase public awareness of the PCTA and the PCT.
